Pumpkin Exploration

We are now about half way through our pumpkin unit and have been really enjoying working with pumpkins in class. Here are just a few of the things we have done to learn more about pumpkins.

We harvested pumpkins from the Hayhurst garden that were planted by last year's kindergarten students.

We made predictions about our pumpkins' measurements and then worked through stations to find out what the pumpkin's measurements actually were.

We even got to cut open the pumpkins and count how many seeds were inside!

Each group also created a great pumpkin face that was cut into the pumpkins to create class jack-o-lanterns.

Such fun faces!

Thank you to everyone who has been able to support us and participate in and out of the classroom!

Pumpkin Updates

We have had a very successful first month of kindergarten. Students have been excited about their learning and are making wonderful gains.

During October we will be studying pumpkins. We have already learned a little about the life cycle and learned this new song:

At the end of our pumpkin unit we will be headed out to a pumpkin farm for our first field trip! If you would like to go on that trip please make sure you have your volunteer background check done as soon as possible, it can take a few weeks to clear. You can complete the form here: https://apps.pps.net/volunteermanagement/

Last year, kindergarten students completed the life cycle of a pumpkin by planting pumpkin seeds in the school garden. This year we get to use those pumpkins and then plant more for next year's kindergarten students. Take a look at the awesome pumpkins that were harvested this year.
