Welcome to Kindergarten!

September 1, 2016
Dear Kindergarten Families,

Welcome to kindergarten! I am thrilled to begin this journey with your child. We have a great year ahead of us and I am excited to have your child in my class.

Our year will be a busy and productive year filled with exciting learning activities. Your kindergartener will learn how to read and write stories, do math, and so much more. My hope is to make your child’s learning experience a fun and exciting one. I hope to instill in every child a love of learning that will last for a lifetime.

So much happens in kindergarten, and it is important for families to be well informed and involved in your child’s learning. It is my belief that positive interactions between the teacher and parents strengthen the feelings of support all children need to be successful in school. My goal is to create an atmosphere of open communication regarding your child’s progress and behavior.

Part of the communication between us will be through notes and letters in the red take home folder. There will be updates in the folders about the units we are working on in the classroom, and information about school and class events. These folders will also be used to transport homework to and from school. There will also be updates on our class blog at mskelseywilliams.blogspot.com

In order to help your child with their success, growth, and learning, here are some things you can do at home.
·      Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem. This will help keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.
·      Read with your child everyday. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom.

If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come in and talk to me or contact me by email at kwillia3@pps.net

By working together we will be able to better meet the needs of your child. I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

Donors Choose Projects

On Donors Choose I have posted two different projects to help our classroom be successful for all. Right now both projects have a matching donation through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation! This is a great opportunity to double your impact. Every little bit helps and I would be grateful if you could pass this information to other potential donors for our class.

Back to School!

I am looking forward to meeting the incoming kindergarten students! As we begin this new journey please keep checking this page for more information and updates about our class.

Here are a few things to think about as you get your child ready for school.

  • Encourage your child to talk about how they are feeling about starting school, and reassure them that school will be great.
  • Label everything. Every year there are backpacks, coats, lunch boxes, and other items that are identical or very similar, it helps to have a name on all items.
  • Get a sturdy water bottle that can be washed and reused.
  • Start working on a consistent bedtime so your child can feel rested and successful at school.
This will be a fantastic year!
